Migrating your Wowza Streaming Engine license to a new server is a common task. This guide will help you transfer your license smoothly and avoid any disruptions.
Migrating from an older server to a newer one is sometimes necessary. When this happens, one of the most common questions our customers ask is how to transfer the license key from the old server to the new one.
Steps to Move Your License
1. Stop Wowza Streaming Engine Services
- Prevent Charges or Errors: To avoid being charged for a second instance (for subscription keys) or to prevent startup errors (for perpetual keys), stop the Wowza Streaming Engine services on your old server before creating the new server instance.
2. Request an R&D License
- Run Both Instances: Request an R&D license key from Wowza Customer Service by emailing customerservice@wowza.com. This allows you to run both the old and new instances simultaneously, enabling thorough testing before migration.
- Install R&D License: Use the R&D license key when installing Wowza Streaming Engine on the new server.
3. Migrate Content and Settings
- Backup Data: Backup your content and settings from the old server.
- Restore on New Server: Restore the backup on the new server to ensure all configurations and content are transferred.
